Décrire le profil des fonctions de diagnostic chez les adultes autistes à l'aide d'une version abrégée de l'entretien de diagnostic pour les troubles sociaux et de la communication (DISCO-Abrégé)

Le taux de diagnostic d'autisme chez les adultes a augmenté ces dernières années; Cependant, le profil des comportements chez ces individus est moins bien compris que celui observé chez ceux diagnostiqués dans leur enfance. Une meilleure compréhension de ce profil sera essentielle pour identifier et éliminer les obstacles potentiels au diagnostic. 

À l'aide d'une forme abrégée de l'entretien diagnostique pour les troubles sociaux et de la communication, des comparaisons ont été établies entre le profil d'un échantillon d'adultes compétents  diagnostiqués à l'âge adulte et le profil d'un échantillon d'enfants compétents. 

Les résultats ont révélé à la fois des similitudes et des différences. 

Une force relative dans la communication non verbale a mis en évidence un obstacle potentiel au diagnostic selon les critères du DSM-5 pour l'échantillon d'adultes, qui aurait peut-être également empêché le diagnostic d'enfant.

Abstract

The rate of diagnosis of autism in adults has increased over recent years; however, the profile of behaviours in these individuals is less understood than the profile seen in those diagnosed in childhood. Better understanding of this profile will be essential to identify and remove potential barriers to diagnosis. Using an abbreviated form of the Diagnostic Interview for Social and Communication Disorders, comparisons were drawn between the profile of a sample of able adults diagnosed in adulthood and the profile of a sample of able children. Results revealed both similarities and differences. A relative strength in non-verbal communication highlighted a potential barrier to diagnosis according to DSM-5 criteria for the adult sample, which may also have prevented them from being diagnosed as children.
